Two ways to get your Verizon Wireless number to your agent. Forwarding keeps Verizon Wireless as your phone company and sends calls over. Moving the number (porting) makes Answering Agent your phone company for that number.

Forward calls

1

Use the Verizon phone itself

Verizon does not let you manage call forwarding without the mobile phone that has the number.
2

Turn on forwarding for every call

Call *72 followed by the 10-digit number you want calls to go to, for example *72-908-123-4567.
3

Or forward only missed calls

Call *71 followed by the 10-digit number to send just the calls you do not answer.
4

Turn it off

Call *73. You will hear a confirmation tone or message that can sound like a busy signal.
5

Call your business number from another phone

Answering Agent listens for the call. When your agent picks up, the phone numbers step in your dashboard turns green.

Good to know

  • Verizon documents *71 as forwarding only the calls you do not answer. It does not publish a separate busy-only code for wireless.
  • The forward-to number must be an active voice line in the US, entered as 10 digits with the area code even for a local number. International numbers are not allowed.
  • There is no monthly fee on most plans, but forwarded calls use plan minutes and a fee can apply on some older plans.
  • You cannot set forwarding while outside Verizon coverage or travelling internationally, but forwarding set before you leave keeps working while roaming.
  • Call forwarding does not forward text messages.
  • If callers get a busy tone after you set forwarding, the forward-to number was probably mistyped. Re-run *72 with the full 10 digits.

Move your number

Start the move from Dashboard, then Phone numbers, then Add a number, and choose Move my number. Upload your latest bill and we read the details for you. Have these ready:
Do not cancel your service with Verizon Wireless until the move is complete. A cancelled number can be lost.

Watch out for

  • The Number Transfer PIN is generated by you in the app or on the website. It is not your account password or your account PIN, and Verizon staff will not read it to you in the normal flow.
  • The PIN expires after 7 days. Hand it to the new carrier right away.
  • One PIN covers the whole account and can move multiple lines, so tell the new carrier exactly which lines to take.
  • Business wireless can regenerate the PIN a maximum of 5 times per line per day.
  • Keep the Verizon account open until the move finishes. Verizon closes it after the last line moves and the final bill issues.
  • Moving a line early can trigger an early termination fee, an immediate device payment balance, and repayment of promotional monthly discounts, capped at a rolling 6 months.
  • If you move your last phone line, cancel any connected device lines such as a watch, tablet, or hotspot yourself or charges continue.
  • Port-out requests covering 10 or more lines go through 1-800-922-0204 instead of self-service.
  • Verizon never asks you for your Number Transfer PIN or account number. Any inbound call asking for them is a port-out scam.
