Two ways to get your Verizon Fios and Business Digital Voice number to your agent. Forwarding keeps Verizon Fios and Business Digital Voice as your phone company and sends calls over. Moving the number (porting) makes Answering Agent your phone company for that number.
Forwarding codes are high confidence, read verbatim from Verizon’s Business Digital Voice feature-access-code page, the Fios star code page, and the Verizon business traditional phone page. Porting is medium to low: Verizon publishes no customer-facing wireline port-out procedure, so loaRequired and typicalDays are null rather than guessed. Checked 2026-09-11.

Forward calls

1

Decide between the portal and the phone

Business Digital Voice has a user portal at businessdigital.verizon.com that mirrors the star codes. Changes made either way show up in both places.
2

Set it in the portal

Sign in to the user portal, open Call Settings, choose Call Forwarding, enter a valid number, and toggle it on. Choosing the no-answer option also lets you pick how many rings to wait.
3

Or use the phone

Lift the handset, press *72, dial the number you want calls to go to, then press #.
4

Turn it off

Press *73 to stop forwarding all calls, or toggle it off in the portal.
5

Call your business number from another phone

Answering Agent listens for the call. When your agent picks up, the phone numbers step in your dashboard turns green.

Good to know

  • Turn off the conditional versions with *93 for no answer and *91 for busy.
  • Business Digital Voice adds *94 and *95 for Call Forwarding Not Reachable, which covers a phone that is not registered on the network. That is the one to use for an internet or power outage at the office.
  • Business Digital Voice also has send-to-voicemail shortcuts: *21 and *36 for always-to-voicemail, *41 and *35 for no-answer-to-voicemail.
  • Residential and small-business Fios Digital Voice publishes a slightly different set on Verizon’s home phone star code page: *72 and *73 for Call Forwarding, *90 and *91 for Busy Line, *92 and *93 for Busy Don’t Answer, and *42 and *43 for the variable Busy Line / Don’t Answer version.
  • On traditional Verizon landline, rotary and pulse phones use 1172 and 1173 instead of *72 and *73, and the regional Ultra Forward / Call Ability variant uses 72# and 73#. Availability varies by region.

Move your number

Start the move from Dashboard, then Phone numbers, then Add a number, and choose Move my number. Upload your latest bill and we read the details for you. Have these ready:
Do not cancel your service with Verizon Fios and Business Digital Voice until the move is complete. A cancelled number can be lost.

Watch out for

  • Keep the Verizon account open until the transfer completes. Cancelling Fios first releases the number and you will lose it.
  • Do not assume the mobile Number Transfer PIN flow applies. It does not cover wireline, and asking My Verizon for one on a Fios voice line will not produce anything usable.
  • Verizon Business Digital Voice support is a separate site and a separate phone number, 800-837-4966, from Verizon wireless support.
  • Verizon does not publish a customer-facing port-out timeline or checklist for Fios or Business Digital Voice. Expect the new carrier to run the process and to ask for a signed authorization.
  • Verify before acting: the account number, authorization, and timeline for a Fios or Business Digital Voice port-out were not confirmable from an official Verizon page and should be confirmed with the gaining carrier or Verizon directly.
