# Vonage Business

> How to forward Vonage Business calls to Answering Agent and how to move your Vonage Business number over.

Two ways to get your Vonage Business number to your agent. Forwarding keeps Vonage Business as your phone company and sends calls over. Moving the number (porting) makes Answering Agent your phone company for that number.

## Forward calls

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in to the Admin Portal">
    admin.vonage.com (account owners/super users) or app.vonage.com for a single user's own settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the extension">
    Click Phone System, then Extensions, hover over the extension to forward, and click the pencil (edit) icon.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on Call Forwarding">
    Click Call Forwarding and toggle Forward Calls on.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Point it at an external number">
    Choose "Send To Ext. or Number", click Add New Number, and enter the external phone number.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set caller ID and save">
    Choose Originating Caller ID or Number on Account, then click Save.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Call your business number from another phone">
    Answering Agent listens for the call. When your agent picks up, the phone numbers step in your dashboard turns green.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>Vonage Business does not publish a dial code for forwarding. Use the steps above.</Info>

### Good to know

* Vonage recommends no more than 4 rings before forwarding to a mobile number, or the VBC Mobile App and the forwarded call can both ring at once.
* Calls forwarded to international numbers or areas outside the plan incur additional charges.
* No star/dial codes for forwarding are documented on Vonage's own support pages; forwarding is configured only in the Admin Portal or Online Account settings.

## Move your number

Start the move from **Dashboard**, then **Phone numbers**, then **Add a number**, and choose **Move my number**. Upload your latest bill and we read the details for you. Have these ready:

| What the carrier asks for | Where to find it |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Account number | Not published by Vonage Business. It is on your bill, or ask their support. |
| Transfer PIN | No. Vonage does not require or verify a port-out PIN. If the gaining carrier's form has a required PIN field, Vonage says any 4-digit number can be entered (e.g., the last 4 digits of the phone number, 1234, or 0000). |
| Extra signed authorization | No                                                                                                                                                                                                                        |
| How long it takes | Vonage Business does not publish a time. Most moves finish in 7 to 10 business days. |

<Warning>Do not cancel your service with Vonage Business until the move is complete. A cancelled number can be lost.</Warning>

### Watch out for

* Vonage's port-away process is really an account-cancellation scheduling step: sign in to the Admin Portal and pick a future cancellation date aligned to your billing date; the numbers transfer whenever the new carrier's port completes.
* Phone numbers cannot transfer after the Vonage account is canceled — if the port isn't done by the chosen date, you must go back into the Admin Portal and push the cancellation date later.
* Vonage Business service is not automatically canceled just because the numbers ported away without notice, which can cause continued billing.
* Cancellation fees may apply if the transfer happens before the end of a term contract.
