# Grasshopper

> How to forward Grasshopper calls to Answering Agent and how to move your Grasshopper number over.

Two ways to get your Grasshopper number to your agent. Forwarding keeps Grasshopper as your phone company and sends calls over. Moving the number (porting) makes Answering Agent your phone company for that number.

## Forward calls

<Steps>
  <Step title="Log in to your Grasshopper account">
    Via the Grasshopper web app or mobile app.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Call Forwarding Settings">
    Go to Settings > Call Forwarding Settings > Extensions; you'll see a list of numbers and extensions on the account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edit the number or extension">
    Click the "edit" button next to the number/extension to configure.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the forwarding number">
    Enter the mobile or landline number (or voicemail) to forward to.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set schedule and behavior">
    Choose whether calls are announced before pickup, and the time frame the rule applies (24/7, weekends, or custom).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and test">
    Save the settings and place a test call to confirm it reaches the destination.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Call your business number from another phone">
    Answering Agent listens for the call. When your agent picks up, the phone numbers step in your dashboard turns green.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>Grasshopper does not publish a dial code for forwarding. Use the steps above.</Info>

### Good to know

* Grasshopper supports forwarding to up to 15 numbers with configurable ring order, ring duration, and forwarding hours.
* Immediate forwarding sends every call straight to another number with no delay; conditional forwarding only forwards when the line is unanswered, busy, or unreachable.

## Move your number

Start the move from **Dashboard**, then **Phone numbers**, then **Add a number**, and choose **Move my number**. Upload your latest bill and we read the details for you. Have these ready:

| What the carrier asks for | Where to find it |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Account number | Not published by Grasshopper. It is on your bill, or ask their support. |
| Transfer PIN | Not published by Grasshopper. Ask their support whether a PIN is needed. |
| Extra signed authorization | Yes                                                                              |
| How long it takes | Grasshopper does not publish a time. Most moves finish in 7 to 10 business days. |

<Warning>Do not cancel your service with Grasshopper until the move is complete. A cancelled number can be lost.</Warning>

### Watch out for

* Only paid Grasshopper accounts with no outstanding balance can port out numbers; free-trial accounts are not eligible.
* Grasshopper does not start, control, approve, or expedite the port-out — the new service provider manages the entire process and timing.
* Porting out does not cancel the Grasshopper account or its other numbers; removing the ported number or closing the account requires a separate request to Grasshopper Support afterward.
* Starting a port-out automatically removes any completed SMS Registration on that number; it must be redone with the new provider, and canceling the port does not restore it without restarting registration.
* Grasshopper cannot cancel or recover a completed port-out; only the new provider can cancel a pending request, and getting the number back requires a fresh port-IN request.
