# Dialpad

> How to forward Dialpad calls to Answering Agent and how to move your Dialpad number over.

Two ways to get your Dialpad number to your agent. Forwarding keeps Dialpad as your phone company and sends calls over. Moving the number (porting) makes Answering Agent your phone company for that number.

## Forward calls

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Your Settings">
    Sign in at dialpad.com and go to Your Settings > Your Devices.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a forwarding number">
    Select Add New, then Add a forwarding number, and enter the external number.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify the number">
    Select Verify — Dialpad calls the number; answer and press 1 to confirm.
  </Step>

  <Step title="(Optional) tune behavior">
    Under Advanced Settings, adjust caller ID and the 'press 1 to answer' verification prompt for forwarded calls.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Call your business number from another phone">
    Answering Agent listens for the call. When your agent picks up, the phone numbers step in your dashboard turns green.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>Dialpad does not publish a dial code for forwarding. Use the steps above.</Info>

### Good to know

* This is simultaneous ring, not exclusive forwarding: an added forwarding number rings together with the user's Dialpad app/devices on an incoming call, up to 5 forwarding numbers per account.
* A separate desk-phone-only 'Always Forward' feature exists (Yealink T-series: More Options > Forward), but Dialpad's own docs say this mechanism is independent from, and not configurable through, the web/mobile client forwarding-number feature.
* Forwarding to international or premium-rate numbers incurs per-minute charges.

## Move your number

Start the move from **Dashboard**, then **Phone numbers**, then **Add a number**, and choose **Move my number**. Upload your latest bill and we read the details for you. Have these ready:

| What the carrier asks for | Where to find it |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Account number | Company name and account number (Company ID) are shown on the Dialpad invoice at dialpad.com/billing. |
| Transfer PIN | Yes. A Company or Office Admin goes to dialpad.com/portout, enters the number, and selects "Get Pin Number" to have Dialpad auto-generate a PIN (or "Set Bulk Pin" to assign one shared 4-digit PIN across multiple selected numbers). |
| Extra signed authorization | Yes                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    |
| How long it takes | Dialpad does not publish a time. Most moves finish in 7 to 10 business days. |

<Warning>Do not cancel your service with Dialpad until the move is complete. A cancelled number can be lost.</Warning>

### Watch out for

* Only Company or Office Admins can start a port-out, and only numbers within your own Dialpad company are eligible.
* Do not cancel the Dialpad account until the port-out is complete and the new provider has successfully ported the number(s) in.
* All information given to the new provider (company name, account number, service address, authorized username, Billing Telephone Number) must match Dialpad's records exactly, or the port can be rejected.
* International porting requirements vary by country; contact [porting@dialpad.com](mailto:porting@dialpad.com) for country-specific rules.
