# 8x8

> How to forward 8x8 calls to Answering Agent and how to move your 8x8 number over.

Two ways to get your 8x8 number to your agent. Forwarding keeps 8x8 as your phone company and sends calls over. Moving the number (porting) makes Answering Agent your phone company for that number.

## Forward calls

<Steps>
  <Step title="Log in to Admin Console">
    login.8x8.com
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the user">
    Click Users, then click the Edit (pencil) icon next to the user you want to set up.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable Forward all Calls">
    Go to Call Forwarding and select the checkbox for "Forward all Calls" (separate checkboxes exist for busy and no-answer).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the destination">
    Click Edit again, choose "Selected Users or External Numbers", and enter the external number with its country code.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click Save, then save the user's profile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Call your business number from another phone">
    Answering Agent listens for the call. When your agent picks up, the phone numbers step in your dashboard turns green.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>8x8 does not publish a dial code for forwarding. Use the steps above.</Info>

### Good to know

* Ring groups and auto attendants use a separate forwarding setup from individual extensions.

## Move your number

Start the move from **Dashboard**, then **Phone numbers**, then **Add a number**, and choose **Move my number**. Upload your latest bill and we read the details for you. Have these ready:

| What the carrier asks for | Where to find it |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Account number | Not published by 8x8. It is on your bill, or ask their support. |
| Transfer PIN | Not published by 8x8. Ask their support whether a PIN is needed. |
| Extra signed authorization | Yes                                                                      |
| How long it takes | 8x8 does not publish a time. Most moves finish in 7 to 10 business days. |

<Warning>Do not cancel your service with 8x8 until the move is complete. A cancelled number can be lost.</Warning>

### Watch out for

* 8x8 does not manage or speed up the port-out process — the new provider drives it entirely; 8x8 only supplies a Customer Service Record (CSR) on request via a 'porting queries' case, which can take up to 72 hours.
* A CSR is not needed to port away US Toll-Free numbers — provide the new provider a copy of your most recent 8x8 bill instead.
* Italy requires an additional Migration Code (Codice Migrazione) and Portugal requires a CVP Code beyond the standard CSR data.
* Porting numbers away from 8x8 does not cancel the 8x8 account or its licenses; submit a separate cancellation request afterward.
* 8x8's published porting lead times (e.g., 7-15 business days for US local numbers) are for porting numbers INTO 8x8; 8x8 does not publish a lead time for porting away, since the new carrier controls that timing.
